Title: Edge of the Eclipse
Photographer: Houston Vandergriff
Location: Wyoming, USA
Caption: When the Great American Solar Eclipse could be seen in a large swath across the United States, we were staying with friends in Denver, Colorado. The closest viewing place was in Scotsbluff, Nebraska. So we got up in the middle of the night, packed a picnic, and headed north. Interstate traffic was predicted to be at a standstill as people traveled from all over the country. So we grabbed a paper map and took off on back roads. As we traveled somewhere, in very rural Wyoming, the sun began to rise. It was a spectacular start to a spectacular day. We wondered: as the sun rose did it know that the whole world would be watching it? That it was going to eclipse? Did it shine particularly golden on this special day?
